Physical Health Assessments

Physical Health Assessments can be done in so many ways. Below you will see some measurements to be used to test some aspects of physical health:

  • Weight, body mass index (BMI), and reflex tests as general assessments.

  • Blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose tests as disease risk factors.

  • Body composition (body fat percentage), flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance tests as fitness assessments.

See some effective ways that you can assess your own physical health:

Heart rate: Pressing lightly on the underside of the wrist on the thumbside. In 15 seconds you count the number of beats you feel and multiple by four.

Anything between 60 and 100 is the average for an adult. If you feel fatigue, dizziness or shortness of breath may be signs of a more significant problem when heart rates outside of this range.

Body temperature: Any temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit signals as a fever caused by illness or infection. Temperatures below normal would be from cold exposure, drug use or alcohol or any hormonal abnormalities. The normal body temperature is considered anything like 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, healthy body temperatures can vary slightly.

Touching Toe: A great test of your physical health and flexibility is simply bending at the waist and reaching for your toes. If you are able to reach your toes this means that you are in a better physical health but the further you are from reaching your toes this means your physical health is poor.
